New Hampshire is a state in the New England region of the north eastern region of United States of America, this state ranks 44th in the total land area among the 50 states and has the shortest coastline of about 18 miles. The capital city of this state is Concord and the largest city is Manchester and the total area of this state is about 9,359 square miles.
This state was one of the first states to have its own constitution, and is internationally famous for the New Hampshire Primary, i.e. the first primary in the quadrennial U.S presidential election cycle. The license plates of this state carries the state motto “live free or die”, the state is also known as the “granite state” to match its tradition of self sufficiency. This state constitutes a major part of the New England region and is bounded by Quebec, Canada, the state of Maine and the Atlantic Ocean.
New Hampshire experiences a humid continental climate, with warm, humid summers, cold wet winters, and uniform precipitation throughout the year.
This state was founded by European settlers who moved into this area in the year 1605, but before that the area was primarily inhabited by the Algonquian speaking tribes. New Hampshire was one of the thirteen colonies which revolted against the British rule during the American war of independence.
As per the census of the year 2005 the state had a population of about 1,300,000 residents, the centre of population of this state located in Merrimack County. The state is home to people from different cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds.
According to the estimate of 2003 the state’s gross product was about $49 billion; the per capita income in 2005 was about $38,000. The state has a rock solid economy and boasts of being self sufficient in meeting all its needs. The state’s main industries include textiles leather shoemaking among others.
