The achievements of this city are so many, that it is difficult to decide where one should start from. To begin with the very basic, the city of Washington is the capital of the United States of America. Also, it is the only city throughout the country that has been named after a president. This city is named after the iconic George Washington. The history of this place harks back to times several centuries ago. When the first explorers from European countries arrived over here, they found that the place to be already inhabited by the Native Americans, who are more popularly known as the Red Indians. Though no proof of their existence can be found today, they are a part of the historic lineage of this city.

The economy of this city is one of the most developed and vibrant ones. Its gross turnover for the year 2005 was almost two hundred and seventy million dollars, giving it the fourteenth position in the national hierarchy. Industries abound in the city of Washington. Electronics, biotechnology, aircraft, computer; you name the industry and Washington has it. It has several top notch industries based over there which include the likes of Microsoft and Boeing. Transportation is never an issue in Washington. It has got an extensive network of roadways and railways. The waterways, which traverse the length and breadth of this city, are an added advantage.

It is no surprise that the capital city of the most powerful country of earth should attract so many people. At the last Census taken in the year 2005 this city already had a population of almost six hundred thousand people. This, when compared to the census taken in the past years, showed an increase for the first time, in the history of this city. Almost half of this can be attributed to natural growth. But the remaining growth resulted because of immigrants. This re-emphasizes the importance and attraction that this city has in the minds of the people.

In the light of what we have already discussed, it does not come as much of a surprise that the real estate market in the city of Washington is one of the most competitive one. You will have to be really quick and intelligent to get yourself a home here. The city has almost four thousand housing units. But the flip side to this lies in the fact that less than a tenth of the total number of housing units are actually vacant and are available in the market. And heavy demand has ensured that the market continues ion its upward trajectory. This has resulted in the average price almost hitting the hundred thousand dollars mark.
